Like many young girls I was a horse fanatic; I took lessons all through high school, however, when I went to college, I couldn’t afford lessons, then came marriage, career and kids. I didn’t ride again for 40 years. At 60, I met my husband, Bob, and knowing nothing about purchasing a horse, we bought two gaited horses for trail riding. I was lucky; my horse, Duke, was well behaved but not real confident. Bob’s horse on the other hand was an extreme right brained introvert; he spooked at everything and couldn’t be caught, we were struggling.
In 2013, we went to a Pat Parelli demo at Equine Affair and were impressed. We got on the Parelli mailing list for clinics in NH and in 2014 attended our first Parelli clinic.; that changed our lives. In two days, Bob’s horse was a different animal and Duke was much more confident; since then we have been attending Parelli clinics and classes every chance possible. I have been to the Parelli campus in Ocala FL four times and have had the privilege of riding with both Pat and Linda. I have been to the Parelli Summit at Pagosa Springs campus twice. I have worked my way through the self-study program and achieved level 3 in all savvys. We now run a boarding barn in Brookfield NH; we handle 17 different horses every day. Without the Parelli skills I have learned, I wouldn’t feel safe and confident with the variety of horses I handle. I wish to continue growing as a horseman and my goal is to reach ‘harmony’ with my horses on a frequent basis.
